ARK is the native token of the ARK Core ecosystem — a modular, open-source, TypeScript-based Layer 1 blockchain protocol. Unlike blockchains relying on general-purpose smart-contract platforms, ARK emphasizes customizable transaction logic and “plug-and-play” independent blockchains (so-called “bridgechains”)

ARK uses a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) model. Token holders vote to select up to 51 delegates (validators), who take turns forging blocks. Blocks are generated roughly every 8 seconds — which makes ARK faster (in terms of block times) than many older systems.

ARK is used to pay for transaction fees on the network. It also enables participation in governance: holders use ARK to vote for delegates. Finally, delegates earn block rewards in ARK for forging blocks; those rewards, depending on the delegate’s policy, can potentially be shared with voters who supported them.

Yes. The ARK Core codebase is modular and configurable, allowing developers to deploy custom blockchains (“bridgechains”) tailored to their needs — with custom transaction logic and parameters. These independent chains can interoperate via ARK’s bridging / cross-chain mechanisms — without necessarily using classic smart-contract systems.

When a block is forged, the delegate receives a fixed reward of 2 ARK per block. Given the 8-second block time, that means frequent issuance to support network security and incentive structure. ARK does not have a hard-cap maximum supply; rather it follows an inflationary model tied to block creation and reward issuance.
